Unlimited: God First

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33, NKJV).

The Bible is continually stressing how we need to prioritise and see things with a true sense of proportion. A favourite word on the lips of Jesus was “first.” He said things like, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness…. ” Or, ”The first and great commandment… ”

Jesus also had an eye for people who observed this priority principle. When everybody else was criticising that poor woman who out of love’s store had anointed him, he said, “Mary has chosen that good thing which shall not be taken from her.” How did she come to do that? Jesus said on the same occasion, “But one thing is needful.”

Mary had a true sense of priorities. She made Jesus first. To Mary, worship was the essence of life.

Let God be God. Either God matters tremendously or he doesn’t matter at all. If God is God, he must be put first, ever and always.

God must be first in every choice. The worship of God must be seen as our first duty and the source of all our fruitfulness and joy.

Eli’s Reflection: Put God first in your decisions. Is there a difficult decision that you need to make, that perhaps you have been putting off? Take some time in a peaceful place to pray about it and make that decision by putting God first.

This is powerful, I remember well that my wife was always on her knees, praying that I secure a job. It was done. If it wasn't God at first, I wouldn't be where I am now. May the Holy Spirit help in reminding us that putting God first is really a requirement. Amen
