Life Recovery Devotions StepWeek 6 Day 1 – Ready Are You Ready

“Once you were less than nothing; now you are God’s own. Once you knew very little of God’s kindness; now your very lives have been changed by it” (1Pt. 2:10, TLB).

There was a time when you were not addicted to something. Your life might have had a feeling of normality about it, but then something changed, you changed and started to walk the path of addiction. During this phase of your life, you will have developed many character defects, that at present, probably seem the norm. But these character defects are anything but normal.

You probably have a major self-worth problem. “I am nothing”, you cry! It might have seemed that way when you had distanced yourself from God. But now that you have come clean about your sins, you are now in relationship with Him. Like in our verse for today, “you are God’s own”. You belong to Him.

Yet there is more to this belonging than you may have realised. Being His son or daughter, means that He wants what is best for you. He sees the character defects that you’ve developed through your addictions. He wants to work in you and with you, as each character defect is dealt with and replaced with a positive character trait.

Each day this week, I would like to share some scriptural pointers that will help you decide to be fully ready to allow God to remove your character defects, as you journey towards full recovery. You can probably relate to today’s verse, in knowing very little about God’s ways, when living an addicted lifestyle, especially how He wants to help you change. You’re now in a different position, you can experience God’s power to remove your character defects.

Personal Reflection: Are you entirely ready to let God remove your character defects? Do you realise you are God’s son or daughter and that He loves you so much? Think about putting your willingness into action!
