Step/Week 5, Day 4 – Admit: More Beneficial Losses

“There was a time when I wouldn’t admit what a sinner I was. But my dishonesty made me miserable and filled my days with frustration” (Ps. 32:3, TLB).

Has life been pretty miserable? Have your addictions totally taken over your life? Thought so! Today’s verse shows a picture of David struggling with denial, not admitting that he is a sinner and in need of God’s forgiveness.

There’s a cause and effect going on here. David’s dishonesty is making him miserable as he spends his days in frustration and distanced from God. Does that sound familiar? Are you living life in denial? If you are, then you need to realise that you can overcome your denial by admitting your sins and confessing them to God.

This is a great benefit for you to receive. Your denial will be stripped away, and you need no longer hide behind the mask you’ve been wearing and the secrets you’ve been hiding are now out in the open.

You will come to appreciate that total honesty really is the best policy. Each time you sin, don’t delay, approach God with a repentant heart and fall upon His mercy and grace and ask Him to forgive you. He will, each time.

The added benefits of doing this is that you will start to feel clean on the inside. Your physical and psychological health will start to improve as you move from denial to acceptance and from dishonesty to honesty. The verse for today gives you a timely reminder how not to live, especially when you’re journey through the process of recovery.

Personal Reflection: Are you willing to let go of your denial? Do you realise your need for God’s forgiveness? Confess your sins to Him; receive His forgiveness; thank Him!
