Life Recovery Devotions StepWeek 4 Day 3 – Spiritual Inventory and Confess Obey God’s Directions

“But if you are unwilling to obey the Lord, then decide today whom you will obey.…But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord” (Josh. 24:15, TLB).

Addicts in general have a real problem with authority figures and what they stand for. Being obedient to anyone is pretty low on the priority list for those in the maelstrom of addiction. “I just need my next fix!” “I’ll do whatever it takes to get that fix, even breaking the law!” “I don’t care what you think, it’s all about ME, ME, ME!” Why do I need to obey God? Sounds familiar? I thought so!

The next letter in CONFESS is O, which stands for OBEY God’s direction. Now that you have come to a realisation of who Jesus is and given your life over to Him, He is now ultimately in charge. He warrants your obedience like no one ever did before. You decided to follow Him and by doing so, you give Him your full allegiance and obedience, just like Joshua did in our verse for today. Decide today to be a Joshua!

But there’s more to this than initially meets the eye. When we give our obedience to God, we are saying “Yes” to all His ways. We agree that we have a need to confess and repent of our sins, not just from our spiritual inventory, but as a life-time commitment to earnestly seeking God each time we sin and get things wrong. We determine to serve God, always, not just when we feel like it.

When you were separated from God through the sins you committed, you created a barrier between yourself and God. Being on the road to recovery is a tough place to be, but it’s the place God has put you; He’s there with you. But sins can get in the way of that relationship. So, it’s imperative that sins are dealt with as soon as possible. That your obedient to God in confessing your sins to Him. Then your relationship with God will be restored again.

Personal Reflection: Are you willing to be fully obedient to God from this point onwards? Do you need to say you’re sorry for your past disobedience? Put things right with God and enjoy your daily relationship with Him. This will be a life-changing decision that you make!
