What are the Best Bible Verses About Love? Let’s start with “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

Jesus told us that this is the greatest commandment. This commandment summarises all of our responsibilities towards God.

“Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).

Jesus said that this was the second greatest commandment. This command condenses all of our responsibilities towards one another.

This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

Jesus gave this as a new command after He had shown His disciples what love truly is. If we want to know how to love, all we have to do is look to Jesus.

“God is love” (1 John 4:8).

God loves us because it is His very nature to love. God loves us no matter what!

“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

After Jesus spoke these words He then proceeded to show this love for the world as He took up His cross, died, and rose again so that everyone’s sins could be forgiven if they would just believe in Him.

Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things(1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

This should give us both a humbling realisation of the inadequacy of our own love and a glorious revelation of the way God feels toward us.

“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).

Because Jesus has loved us and forgiven our sins we ought to love and forgive one another.

“Better is a dish of vegetables where love is than a fattened ox served with hatred” (Proverbs 15:17).

The greatest gift that one can give is love.

“But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13).

Love is the reason for our faith and our hope. It is the greatest attribute of all.

“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44).

We have been called to a higher standard where we are to love even our enemies. This is only possible in the light of the overwhelming love which God has lavished on us.

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

The sign of a true follower of Christ is love.

“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love” (John 15:9).

Jesus’ love is the same as the Father’s love and He has invited us to receive this love. Jesus wants us to experience the joy that He experiences through His relationship with the Father.

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

God’s love is truly unconditional. While we were still His enemies He was willing to die for us that we might have fellowship with Him.

“Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14).

Everything that believers say and do should be done out of love, both God’s love flowing through us, and our love flowing to Him and our brethren.

“And walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:2).

In light of what Jesus has done for us, we also ought to walk in love just as He did. This becomes easier the more we allow His love to work in us and through us.

The Best Bible Verses About Love Don’t end with Jesus – his disciples continue on the same theme…

“Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity” (Colossians 3:14).

Love is the bond that keeps families together and it is the power that can end strife. When Christ returns those who are waiting for him will be united under the banner of love.

“But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith” (1 Timothy 1:5).

Paul says that love is the very reason that he teaches with all his passion and zeal. This same love should be the motivation for all our actions as well.

“Let love of the brethren continue” (Hebrews 13:1).

In the chaos of life, we sometimes forget the simple command to love. We can never be reminded too many times to love one another. Memorising Bible Verses About Love will help you internalise them and see them shape your life through the Holy Spirit!
