Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.

The crude male chauvinism displayed by Abram may be offensive by our standards. He was quite ready to sacrifice his wife Sara to Pharoah’s harem if thereby he could save himself from harm. A woman might well think herself unlucky to have been born female in those days. But wait; do humans in this day and age ever prefer the loss and indignity of their spouse to any potential sacrifice of their own? Let each man (women too) answer for himself.
