Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them’” (2 Kings 6:16).

As a small boy, I was afraid of the dark. If I had to walk anywhere at night, away from the farm-house which was my home, I would do so with much anxiety. It seemed to me that the world was no doubt teeming with malevolent powers which were certain to take advantage of the darkness and cause me harm.  One thing gave me complete relief from this anxiety—my Dad. When we walked together, I was sure that he was more than whatever lurked.  The living of life through all its years is transformed in the best way, by faith that an infinitely powerful and benevolent presence is with us at every step.
