Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life.
2 Samuel 14:14

Few biblical metaphors picture with such eloquent simplicity the fragility and brevity of existence.  Water, be it ever so precious, is easily wasted and once spilled, impossible to be recaptured and comprised in useable formats. Unlike other animals, humans have to make their way through life fully aware of their tentative and precarious estate. Knowing this drives many to cynicism and despair. But God does not take away life!  Over against human weakness and death stands  a mightier truth—a God who does not concur with our dying.
