Do not be afraid,’ Samuel replied. ‘You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart’.
1 Samuel 12:20
Fear is the companion of a guilty conscience. Men and women everywhere know instinctively, that they have fallen short of that which is better, and which, for that reason, they ought to have done. To one degree or another, we experience nameless apprehension that the universe might require a reckoning. The only religion sufficiently answering this existential problem is the religion of the gospel. There is always another chance with God. He is inclined to be merciful.
