Children in Whom the Father Delights

Baptism of JesusAt the baptism of Jesus, when he came up out of the water, the heavens were opened,

And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” – Matt 3:17

The Father delighted in his Son and proudly proclaimed His love for him.

“He’s mine! He’s mine!” the Father said, “My son is special, and I love Him to bits!”

Life as the world offers it to us seems at times designed to tear you down, to make you feel worthless and like rubbish. I am sure that Christ had his difficult moments as well. That’s why he was often found in prayer.

When the world belittles us, demeans us, and downgrades us, it is good to remember that because of the cross of Christ, we who were far have been brought near, we who were not the children of God have been brought into the family, as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. (Rom 8:17). We who have believed have all received the adoption as sons and daughters of God (Eph 1:5). When you are your Father’s child by faith, the perfect righteousness of Christ is credited to your life so that the Father is well pleased with you, and you are loved and safe in Him.

The words of the Father are pronounced in heaven at the baptism of every child in His kingdom. And I am certain that the Father also speaks these same words to us whenever we take the humble gospel road instead of the road of this world, or whenever we suffer for His cause, or just whenever the world tries to make you feel like you are worthless.

Hear them now: “This is my beloved child, in whom I am well pleased.” That’s you – because of Jesus Christ.
